«This is a lecture on hesitation. As a lecture it does not take a straightforward path. Instead, I hope to offer contemplation of a certain dog, a dog rendered by the Spanish painter Goya in 1819 or so. Each time I look at this dog it gives me to think many different things that move in different directions. Each time I look at this dog I think about hesitation. And each time I think about hesitation I wonder what thinking, really, is.»
